Lafayette Radio Electronics (LRE) was established in the 1920s. Lafayette advertised very heavily in all of the major U.S. consumer electronics magazines of the 1960s and 1970s. By the late 1970s Lafayette lost a very competitive battle with the Radio Shack stores. The last Lafayette store closed in 1981. They sold radio sets, amateur radio equipment, , citizens band, CB radios, and other communications equipment, as well as electronic components.
